Years of Experience: 40 Location Options: In Home Travel Radius: 40 Genres: Rock, Jazz, Classical Age Groups: Children, Young Adult Instruments Taught: Keyboard and Piano Lessons Overview: I have taught private piano since 1970, immediately after receiving my Bachelor's of Music in Piano Performance from East Carolina University. I received NJ certification in classroom music, grades K-12 in 1973, but now realize after considerable experience in school music education, that my passion and greatest expertise lies in one-on-one piano instruction. My other strong area exists in church music: choir direction, playing the organ, and piano in service and rehearsal. I reinforced my musical competency significantly through non-matriculated coursework and organ studies at Westminster Choir College, 1986-1991. As a piano educator, I teach my students self-sufficiency at the piano, thorough understanding of music theory; and enthusiasm for music, through appreciation of composers and repertoire through the eras. Formal Education: East Carolina University BM in Piano Performance Kean University NJ Certification in Classroom Music K-12 Private Education: Westminster Choir College: Non-matriculated coursework in conducting and organ pedagogy; summer workshops; private organ studiesPrivate instruction in jazz piano, 2005-2007Private organ coaching, 2010 Performing Experience: College piano recitals: Sophomore, junior, and senior years; organ recitals, beginning in 1974; most recently, 2008 and 2009; accompanist for vocal and instrumental performances; church and community choral performer; most notably, for Schola Cantorum of NJ and Masterworks Chorus -- Carnegie Hall, NYC, NY Experience Teaching: I have taught private piano since September of 1970 in both my home (Steck baby grand, in my possession since age three) and the homes of my students. I have traditionally featured my students -- adults, adolescents, and children -- in yearly recitals and Christmas/holiday performances. As a classroom music educator as well as one-on-one instructor, I emphasize music theory and appreciation, as well as performance; plus, the importance of daily practice, between lessons (one to two lessons a week).
