My name is Elijah and i'm a multi genre saxophonist based in Central Florida. I've been doing music since a very young age, but I began studying saxophone at 13. When I started saxophone, I practice for long hours every single day. I didn't take lessons, I was disciplined only by motivation. I wanted to be a special force in music and people's lives through the saxophone. Within two years of playing I found myself being 1st chair in my high school's Jazz Ensemble, as well as the wind ensemble. Additionally, I was in top leadership positions throughout high school, as well as multiple performance and gig experiences. I began formal musical training at Bethune-Cookman University. It is there where I also participated in the world famous Marching Wildcats. In my second year I became a section leader, being responsible for nearly 40 saxophonists. Currently I'm in the Orlando Faith and Jazz Big Band, I do solo work, And I perform with multiple groups in the area. Formal Education: So far I have been studying at Bethune-Cookman University for to years, but I will be continuing my education at the University of North Florida. At Bethune, I've studied saxophone and performance with Dr. Timothy Rosenberg, Dr. Michael Westmoreland, and Jason Hastings. I will be obtaining a degree double majoring in Music Education/Jazz Studies. Private Education: I personally never had private lessons until college. I was mostly self taught and disciplined. In college, I've studied with Dr. Tim Rosenberg, Dr. Michael Westmoreland, and Jason Hastings. These instructed have greatly aided me to increase my skill level to totally new heights. Once i start at UNF, I'll be studying with Todd Delguidice and Dr. Bovenzi. Performing Experience: I've performed jazz and classical (or have had my playing featured) music at places like Old Town, Bethune- Cookman University, Black Box Theatre, Various establisments in Titusville and the general space coast area. Currently I am also in the Orlando Faith and Jazz Big band, directed by professional trombonist Andrea Rowlison. Experience Teaching: I've taught as a volunteer to aid band directors/teachers at Poinciana High School, Atlantic High school, and Bonner Elementary School, etc. I have given some music and saxophone lessons to people many times throughout my life, successfully helping them achieve their goals. -Reviews- Name: Dr. Michael Westmoreland Date: 2017-05-24 14:41:23 Title: Assistant Professor, Woodwinds (Clarinet) Body: Elijah is a former saxophone student of mine. In the time that I’ve known Elijah; I have learned that hard working, conscientious, student here at Bethune-Cookman University. He is currently a music education student in the music department and is an active performer in the concert band, the Wildcat marching band, and the saxophone ensemble where he had performed on soprano saxophone. Additionally, he is constantly improving his jazz performance skills through the acquisition of numerous jazz pattern handouts that he has researched on the internet. If you are looking for an exceptionally person for your music program, I highly recommend Elijah for applied saxophone lessons.
