About Alicen

I'd describe my personality as curious, enthusiastic and driven. Tutoring has been work I've come back to again and again; it is deeply gratifying and inspiring when something clicks into place for the first time and the excitement of the student is visible. In my experience, students are more likely to have moments like this in one-on-one or in a small group. I'm looking for a job that allows me to share what I've learned about language, reading literature, and writing at a time when the humanities are not always the focus in schools. I started tutoring when I arrived in Paris as a young adult. At the time, I was tutoring English and also working with several families as a homework helper. Once I was back in New York, I began tutoring French to people of all ages. I now teach French and literature part time at CUNY, and continue to tutor long-time clients. In my spare time, I like to read, cycle, see good movies, and laugh with friends.
