About Amanda

Professionally, I have worked at the Stony Brook University Writing Center since sophomore year. I aid students in reaching their writing goals by identifying global issues and brainstorming ways to push their writing! We work on thesis statements, structure, syntax, etc. Our goal at the Writing Center is to create better writers, not better writing. I have also worked at Kumon Math and Reading Center, where I helped early learners (4 to 6 years old) remain focused and provided guidance when stuck for 20 to 45 minute sessions. The curriculum was provided, however, my personal philosophy for early learner reading is sounding out words! Personally, I have worked as an online volunteer tutor my sophomore year of high school. I created lessons plans for my student, mainly in middle school level math and some reading to help them on standardized tests. In high school, I received a 5 on the AP Literature Exam and a 680 on the SAT reading portion.
