About Amanda

I'm 38 and have no children of my own, but I've helped my friend's kids, my foreign exchange student, and our foster kids through academic trials of middle and high school. My preference is to work with teens because I can relate to them more than small children, though I'm happy to try working with a small child. I have not finished a degree, but I have over 120 credits and am now pursuing a degree full-time. I'm a life-long learner and education enthusiast. I completed one of the most academically challenging schools the military has to offer and served 9 years as a nuclear reactor operator. One of my foster kids, who I had for 14 months, was intellectually and developmentally disabled. He had behavior problems and hated school in general. In the short time that we had him, he gained incredible confidence in his abilities, which encouraged him to perform more and better at school. I'm happy to work with individuals that need out-of-the-box learning methods.
