About Christabel

Christabel has been one of the main caregivers for my mother for over a year now. My mother is 84, lives in her own home by herself and has acute memory and cognitive disfunction. Part of the challenge is that my mother does not easily ask for or accept help, so having another person in the house, who is not family was/is difficult for her. However, for her safety and well-being with her condition, it is essential. So, finding the right person, who could be patient, empathetic, attentive, professional, kind, and resourceful was the challenge. Christabel is that person! She is able to understand where my mother is coming from. She sincerely cares about her and admires her. She even uses humour and affection to de-escalate challenging situations. She cooks for my mom, listens to her, gives her space, gives her very specific and numerous supplements and medicines, and treats her with such kindness, all from a spirit of generosity. She also goes the extra mile to fill in for other caregivers when they are away or runs errands if a medication needs filling. She has even picked me up at the airport when I am flying in to see my mom. My brothers and I are so grateful to Christabel because we know that my mother is safe, treated with kindness and respect, and given as much autonomy as possible.
