We hired Darya during an intense season of overwork in our household with the intention of lightening the load and creating more stability for our children. From the beginning, we clearly communicated expectations around hours, days, commute, and compensation. We also took care to onboard her gradually, allowing time for her to build familiarity and trust with all three of our children. Unfortunately, Darya decided to end her time with us abruptly, just two weeks into our family working two jobs, citing the commute and hours as not worth her time — despite these logistics being known from the start. In her final session, she repeatedly used her phone to show videos to our three-year-old, which did not align with the kind of attentive, child-centered care we value. Darya’s lack of follow-through and inattentive behavior reflected a broader mismatch in professionalism and sensitivity to the real work of caring for young children and supporting a family under strain.
