About Spencer

I have done some occasional baby sitting, but my primary experience with kids has been as a volunteer coach, volunteer of elementary school students, and helping out with younger campers at a sleep-away camp. As a volunteer coach I have helped out with elementary school and middle school track and stride. My role as a coach primarily consisted of staying organized in order to help the kids know what to be doing at meets/races, as well as supervising activities during practices. In high school I was very active in the community service club. While in the club, I often went to the elementary school to help students with arts and crafts projects. In the summers I attended summer camp from ages 8-15 and as an older camper I was often called upon to help supervise the 8-10-year-olds during activities. After graduating High School, I spent a semester abroad in Spain where I lived with a Spanish host-family and would occasionally help looking after the children while the parents were out.

I am writing to recommend Spencer for any position in which he would be caring for children older than five years old. I can fully vouch for his suitability and ability to work in this capacity. I have known Spencer for his entire life I m his mom. I have observed him in family, social, and work settings, and I can say without qualification that he will be an asset to any organization or to any household seeking a private caregiver for older children. Although Spencer does not yet have a wealth of babysitting experience, he possesses all the qualities you would want in a caregiver, friend, or employee: he is intelligent, conscientious, compassionate, courteous, patient, generous, honest, respectful, and kind. He is also unfailingly cheerful and a very good listener. Above all, however, the most important aspect of Spencer s character is his amazing maturity. In 2008, when my daughter suffered a spinal cord injury and other injuries leaving her physically challenged, Spencer was only ten years old but he leaped to help take care of his older sister as competently and caring as any adult. She has continued to face medical challenges, including various surgeries, as recently as December 2014, and Spencer has continued to patiently and cheerfully provide her with care and assistance, even when faced with seemingly unreasonable demands from her. Spencer also understood the importance of encouraging her to do as much for herself as possible Spencer helped her to help herself. Overall, Spencer provided not just excellent help to his sister, but he also provided comfort and warm companionship, gently and positively supporting his sister on her path to recovery. Spencer clearly has the gift of wisdom beyond his years, as well as patience and kindness. Additionally, I have observed Spencer help coach kids in the youth track program, and I have watched him interact with neighborhood kids and the children of our friends who visit. He genuinely enjoys hanging out with kids, and somehow knows the secrets of how to get them to do the things they need to do without them realizing they are performing tasks. He is remarkably insightful and intuitive, and has a great sense of awareness of himself and others. Spencer also knows how to do a variety of household chores and has a strong work ethic. He does his own laundry, he mows the lawn and does dishes, he can cook basic meals, and he can clean kitchen, bathrooms, and floors. I have the utmost confidence that Spencer would be a stellar caregiver for older children, and with some experience he would be great with younger children, also. I am pleased to offer my unqualified recommendation. Please don t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Debra
