My mom is a vibrant 76-years-young, but sadly, she is in the early-mid stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. My mom has always been fiercely independent and initially refused help from any type of caregiver… until we introduced Emma. A friend had referred Emma and since then, (not to be dramatic, but it’s true) Emma’s help has been life changing. My mom can still do a lot herself, but Emma helps with IADLs (many of the other complex activities such as managing medications, pain relief, errands, household chores, light tidying, problem solving, and even Christmas shopping). Emma consistently shows up with such love, grace, compassion, and support. Recently, we had one of the most difficult weeks so far with my mom’s illness. Emma was there for us, above and beyond what we imagined. Emma isn’t simply educated, she is experienced. She demonstrates remarkable wisdom, empathy, creativity, and bottomless patience. She has handled tricky situations with tact and sensitivity. Most importantly, in just a few months, my mom has grown to love her like a family member.
