I have lived close by both set of grandparents ever since I was little. In early 2021 I moved in with my ill grandmother, suffering from dementia. As her memory began to fail, the caretaking shifted from companionship to full dependency. Duties of mine included diaper changing, showering, teeth brushing, feeding (and meal prep), dressing, and talking all day long. I am forever blessed by my time with her and continue to be blessed by caring for those with memory failure and the difficulties of aging. Though abilities might be decreasing, I strongly believe in the value of each human regardless of competency.
