About Julie

I taught various fine arts, creative movement and outdoor education for Portland Parks and Recreation, and did some private tutoring in Portland as well. Here in Oakland, I have been working primarily as a nanny, and volunteer as a bilingual literacy (English/Spanish) tutor for the local elementary school. I love helping kids develop their love of learning! I have a great deal of unpaid experience with homework help, ESL, reading, and studied literature and creative writing in college as well as fine art. I have paid work experience as an editor, proofreader, and historical research assistant. As an art teacher, I became enamored of the art education philosophy of Michelle Cassou, for whom painting is a free-form, therapeutic self expression. I have many lessons in technique at my disposal as well.
