Josie was hired as a 24/7 live in caregiver for my mother in law in October 2024. It didn’t take long for her expectations to surface. As a longtime caregiver myself I had a very good understanding of the demands associated with a live in position. Unfortunately it became evident that Josie did not. Almost immediately she began asking for multiple days off which was not a part of the original agreement. She expected family members to bend over backwards with very little notice to accommodate her social life sometimes on a weekly basis. We tried for months to appease her wishes but slowly the demands multiplied. Eventually more issues arose such as getting into personal arguments with friends/neighbors of my Mother in law. The house was in disarray, my MIL’s hygiene was not being addressed and after several days of 11pm phone calls it became clear she was not doing well. In fact she blamed her decline on her caregiving job complaining that she wasn’t equipped to support my MIL’s needs. It came to a head when she took an entire week off then days later wanted 3 more days off. This was the first time she could not be accommodated and so she went off. She said the family did not treat her well, didn’t appreciate her, broke labor laws (despite the fact she’s self employed) and more. All of this being said over the phone with my MIL in the same room. After being told we had no options for her time off she decided that quitting the next day was her best option. The excessive texts continued days later as she moved her belongings out then asked to be paid an additional 10 days past the day she quit. I say all this as a warning to others to avoid employing Josie at all costs. She has neither the experience or commitment for caregiving.
