About Kirsten

I aim to build a solid foundation of literacy skills so that learners can navigate reading and writing with ease and excitement. With routine practice in phonological, phonemic, and graphemic awareness, I lay out a path to literacy success that makes sense and doesn't leave students or parents feeling daunted. Having worked in many elementary classrooms, I have seen firsthand the common struggles children face these days in their reading instruction. In addition, I spent a year intensively studying a foreign language through the Army at the Defense Language Institute, an experience that ties in greatly to understanding how to teach the basics of English literacy to those struggling with it or experiencing it for the first time. I teach in alignment with the science of reading and am trained in Orton Gillingham strategies at the Classroom Educator level. Overall, I am a fun person who finds joy in language and literacy, and aims to bring that joy to others.
