Experience: 10 yrs
I have worked with children for close to 30 yrs. The fun all started when I was 12 yrs old as a babysitter for my 6th grade teacher. Once I started college I continued working with children as a nanny for 4 years. Over the last 30 years I have had the privileged of partnering with over 31 families. Between babysitting, being a nanny, running a home daycare (watching only 2-3 babies) substitute teaching and private language teaching. I feel I understand children and can read them pretty easy. Most of my experience is with kids ages 2 months through 6 years. I have also been a substitute teacher kindergarten through high school. I have come back to the professional nanny field by choice. After a stint working in the professional world, and having my own family, I realize the early years are a ton of fun. I am looking to find families that are wanting a partnership to help raise their little human . I know ASL, limited Spanish and French. Limited space, so please reach out if interested.
Margaret L. has been a fantastic caregiver for our (now) 20 month daughter. We hired her as a nanny starting when our daughter was 4 months, and I was ready to go back to work from my home office. The proposition of having someone in your home with your young child is a scary one. I have never had in-home help before, and was nervous about sharing our space with a stranger. But very quickly, Margaret went from being a stranger to a vital part of our village. Margaret is an incredible nanny, and has a fantastic personality that made her a welcome presence in our home. She was so adaptable to our schedules and our home-set-up that it took no time at all for her to ease in and connect with our daughter. Margaret is so caring, gentle, and shows so much kindness and patience. She helped teach my daughter with reading and play, and has helped us settle into nap time schedules, feeding schedules, and many early routines we struggled with. She was present for many of my daughter's in-home physical therapy lessons, and has helped guide my daughter's gross motor skill development. She was happy to jump in with new and ever-changing needs, and on board to try out new things. When my daughter needed tummy time she came up with new ideas to ease her in. If a strategy failed, she showed patience and understanding and quickly adjusted. Same with sitting up, standing up, and beginning to walk. She gave me tips on feeding her soft foods, solid foods, and figuring out a feeding schedule. She let me know things to look out for in developmental steps and markers, and was an endless resource for so many questions I had as a new parent. And of course, she was there to guide my daughter just as much. She was there for my daughter's first steps, first words, and so many other firsts. And if I was out of the room or away, she would send me photos and keep me up to date on what my daughter was doing. She updated our huckleberry app so I knew how much sleep, food, and diaper changes my daughter had each day. Although I was very flexible with screen time, Margaret never utilized it. Instead she used other tools, such as exposing her to new music and lots of talking practice. They spent a lot of time reading and taking walks outside, which my daughter loves. Margaret would get my daughter outside for one, and often two walks, a day; even when needing to bundle up or brave the rain. They often went to a playground a few blocks away which allowed my daughter to interact with other kids, and learn how to use the play toys and navigate uneven surfaces. Because of her time with Margaret, she was able to continue to develop her fine and gross motor skills, and her language was (and is) off the charts. Margaret is so much more than a babysitter. As a nanny, she acts as a teacher, a friend, and she really has become part of our family. She is such a pivotal part of our daughter's world. She became the third person my daughter saw the most, outside of my husband and myself. With Margaret, I never had to worry because I know our girl is in good hands. And, as a bonus, Margaret was a really fun person to chat with in our home when I needed breaks to keep my sanity. I literally cannot recommend her enough. She has been a rock for us the last 16 months. We are going to miss her so much. Whatever family she ends up with next will be lucky to have her in their corner.
