My family is French and I have grown up visiting the country and speaking with my grandparents (I have a native accent). 2. I was never taught grammar, so I took it upon myself to learn in High school and College. Thus, I can understand the frustration of learning the language and can sympathize with your child. I have both worked in France at a U. S. consulate and lived there for a period of 6 months during my junior year of college. I have also taught French classes to both beginner and intermediate college students while I was also a student!
