Review for Nurys, Our Caregiver My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about six years ago, but things took a turn in January of this year when he stopped walking. My mom was overwhelmed with the level of daily care he needed, and our family was at a loss. I found Nurys on the Care page, not knowing much about adult caregivers and honestly unsure what to expect. Hiring Nurys was, hands down, the best decision we made for my father, my mother, and our whole family. Nurys treated my dad with a level of compassion and empathy that went beyond anything we could’ve hoped for. Even though he was losing his ability to speak, you could tell he took to her right away. It was like she just got him. When Nurys started, Dad couldn’t walk, his leg muscles were atrophying, and he was developing bed sores. She jumped in without missing a beat—recommending bed equipment and lotions to help with the sores, starting physical therapy for his legs, and helping move him from his medical bed to his wheelchair and back. Every morning, she’d clean him, give him breakfast, and by the time she left, he was in fresh clothes, with clean bedsheets and disposables all taken care of. She made sure he was comfortable and cared for in every way. Nurys was only able to work weekdays, but she went above and beyond by arranging for her friend Maria to cover weekends. Maria, with Nurys’ guidance, did an amazing job keeping up the same level of care for Dad until the very end. Nurys didn’t just stick to her three-hour morning shifts. She took it upon herself to find additional nursing resources and equipment through Medicare to make Dad more comfortable and help his sores heal faster. When the time came, she connected us with a hospice service that made his final days easier, providing a nurse practitioner to manage his pain and support my mom with extra resources. Nurys cared so deeply for my dad that, even after a long flight, she rushed to his bedside on a Monday night to see him one last time. He passed the next day at noon. Thanks to Nurys’ help, compassion, and empathy, my father passed at home, surrounded by family, free of pain, and with dignity—exactly what we wanted for him. I can’t imagine a better person to care for a loved one. Nurys became like family to us, and we’ll keep that connection. We feel so lucky to have found her during this crucial time in my parents’ lives. You couldn’t ask for anyone better.
