I am a retired healthcare professional who has 30 years experience taking care of folks, spending the past 20 working in geriatric care. Actually, I grew up taking care of folks because no one in our family ever went into "the home". We, as a family, tended to our loved ones at home until they went on to their eternal home. It was the last and greatest gift we could give to our family. I pass on what was ingrained in me to each special person I care for as my folks and their families become part of mine. I am very open, engaged, and available. Above all, I LISTEN to my folks. After all, they are the most important and cherished people on earth. In addition, I can handle meds, watch for signs and symptoms of potential problems so they may be addressed quickly and I COOK from scratch. I believe in good, nutritious meals that are diet appropriate for seniors. I don't mind light housekeeping, but I am not a maid.
