About Ruthie

Hello! I am a current middle school math teacher and have taught 5th-8th grade. My favorite part of the job is helping a child one-on-one with their math learning, so I'm opening up some tutoring hours. I love helping students with their skills while showing the playful side of math and helping them see numbers can be of use to them, no matter their interests/passions. I employ growth-mindset language and help students to believe they can grow as mathematicians. I'd describe my personality as warm, firm, silly. I like tutoring because it's a phenomenal way to see lots of growth in a short time! I'm looking for a job that is rewarding for me and the family. In my spare time, I like to sew, see theatre, cook, spend time in Prospect Park, be with my girlfriend and our cat. One thing you should know about me is I love math and love to instill a love of math in my students! My skills include direct instruction, confidence building, using multiple strategies.
