It took me 37 years and losing 3 of my grandparents to realize how much I love being around the elderly. I was raised by my grandparents and I still have a deep bond with my 80-year-old grandmother. I will never forget the last time we were together. I took her (and her wheelchair) in my car and we had the best day at the mall. We took pictures and ate ice cream together. Like me, she also loves heading to target just to get out of the house. I have a 3-year-old daughter and we love going out for fresh air and running errands. I really believe that there are numerous benefits for seniors and toddlers to spend time together. Frequent interaction with children throughout their day helps alleviate symptoms of loneliness and isolation. It also encourages them to engage in physical activity by playing with the children, enjoying the spirit and joy that children bring to their environment.
