I cannot say enough positive attributes about Sonya B. Sonya assisted with caring for my mother with dementia and my dad with various medical issues for over 4 years. She was kind, gentle, dedicated, compassionate, trustworthy, personable, professional, and knows what she is doing. She takes her job seriously and treats everyone with dignity and respect. I moved in with my parents to help care for them about 3 years prior to Sonya helping. Before Sonya I was using an agency for caregiving. I got the feeling that for most employees it was just a job. For the caregivers who liked what they were doing, they were restricted by varying company policies. The agency was constantly sending different people over, sometimes without warning and then I would get a phone call to come home and calm my mother down. With Sonya, her love and passion for taking care of others shines through and is truly a blessing. She started off part time and moved to full time as more care was needed. She was extremely reliable and arrived on time every day. Sonya was invaluable because she was with my parents all day allowing me to continue to work as an Office Manager, and without worry. She made sure medication was taken, prepared meals, did all the basic household chores, went shopping with them, drove Dad to his volunteer job and Mason meetings, and took my parents to most doctor appointments. When I came home in the evening everything was always clean along with a note on how the day was and if I needed to know anything. Most days she would go above and beyond her duties helping my dad with his tinkering and household projects. Mom had dementia and she knew how to take care of mom without getting her stressed. She learned her daily habits and was always ready for what mom wanted or needed. Sonya knew exactly what to do when mom was having a difficult day and could calm her down. Dad was fairly active in the beginning but fell one night ending up with a brain bleed. I trusted Sonya’s knowledge of nursing and care that I usually did not go to any doctor appointments with either one of my parents. I gave her the authority to ask and receive information on behalf of my parents. She would ask the right questions, made sure the doctor knew exactly what was going on, or what the issue was that needed to be addressed. It was like having me there, but better. After every appointment she would follow up with me on what was said, done, and needed to be done, and in a way that I understood. No decisions were ever made if I was not present. During several of my dad’s hospital and rehab stays, Sonya would visit with him and be his patient-care advocate. She would make sure he was getting what he needed and would find out what physical therapy tasks he needed to do and work with him. Both of my parents have passed away over the last two years. I will always be grateful for the exceptional care and support Sonya provided, which allowed me to simply enjoy my time with them. I recommend Sonya B. without hesitation to anyone seeking a truly dedicated, compassionate, and trustworthy caregiver.
