I have been visiting a resident in a nursing home for an hour -three days a week. I feed her or help her eat her breakfast. I turn her music on to Frank Sinatra. I will make sure her glasses are clean, talk or sing to her. Sometimes she responds, but she has dementia and is unable to walk or carry on a conversation with me. I am paid a small stipend monthly to spend time with her. About 4 years ago I took medical leave so I could go back home and help take care of my 84-year-old mom who had Alzheimer's with her daily care maintenance including hygiene, making her daily food, and walking her to the bathroom every 2 hours. I enjoy this time with my mom even though half the time she did not know who I was, but there was one time she knew.
