About Susan

I'd describe myself as caring, kind and knowledgeable. I love working with children and believe all children can become successful readers. My goals are to teach reading and writing to 1st-3rd graders. I am a former professor of Education. I was a tutor for 6 years for the Spark program for struggling readers in Milwaukee. In the past year, I have been an independent literacy tutor to children in grades K-3. In addition to having a doctorate, my background includes courses in the Science of Reading from SUNY, an introduction to teaching dyslexic students using the Wilson Reading System, and a course in morphology from Lifelong Literacy. I work very hard to plan effective lessons targeted to specific children's literacy needs. All my lessons address phonemic awareness, phonics, syllables and word meaning, fluency and reading comprehension. My skills include: extensive background in reading and writing; lesson planning skills; my belief in children; and patience.
