About Kathleen

I am passionate about helping children and adults learn to read. I have over 10 years of experience as a reading tutor. I am certified as an IDOE Reading Specialist, Structured Literacy Teacher, and Reading Interventionist. I work extensively with students identified as "at risk" for reading failure or identified with a specific learning disability, such as dyslexia. I use a systematic and explicit approach when teaching the major components of reading, such as phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, vocabulary, fluency, and language comprehension. My goal is to help each student develop proficient reading skills that will contribute to his or her academic growth and success. After all, reading is the key to success!
