About Laurel

I'd describe my personality as patient, caring, and creative. I like tutoring because I get to creatively find ways to make learning fun for kids. I'm looking for a job that I can use my knowledge of the science of reading and math strategies to assist students to become better learners. I started tutoring when I was in college studying education. Now, I teach 1st grade and offer tutoring services to student who need additional support. In my spare time, I like to walk my dog and read books! One thing you should know about me is I love to be fun and goofy while teaching. I also enjoy using movement and songs in my lessons. My skills include a deep knowledge of the science of reading that I obtained through LETRS training, the ISD Reading Clinic, and self guided research. I am constantly looking for strategies to support all students. I also use a spiral intervention program that I have been trained in to support reading growth.
