About Zia

I'm a senior physics major at UC Davis. I've tutored peers in math and physics through the Academic Assistance & Tutoring Center. I learned how to guide students at their own pace and make complex concepts more approachable and exciting. I also tutored an elementary school student during the pandemic, helping them navigate online learning. I've worked on research teams focused on geophysics and quantum optics, which deepened my physics, math, and computer science knowledge plus my problem-solving skills. I am well-versed in the Python, C, and Java. I enjoy making math, physics, and coding accessible, engaging, and confidence-building. I ask guiding questions so that students are thinking through the problem rather than being told the answer. When a student makes a mistake, I compliment strengths to their approach before correcting them. I avoid using phrases like "This is easy" or "It's obvious" as what is easy or obvious to one student may be unclear or complicated to another.
