In high school, I played in the Marietta High School Band, took private lessons for drum set and hand-drums, and played in a few bands with friends. Since then, I have attended the Atlanta Institute of Music, where I learned from some of the top recording drummers in the world. Also, I have played in multiple bands/projects, including Time to Burn, and the newly formed Reverend Hylton the Heads. My main instrument is percussion, but I have also been playing bass guitar and piano for about three years. My main musical influences are Jazz and southern gospel. Formal Education: I've been playing music for the majority of my life. I started on drumset at a young age, learning from my father in a church setting. I've been in band since fourth grade playing percussion and melodic percussion, and in high school, I joined Jazz Band where I continued developing on drumset and began my studies of piano and bass guitar. While in college I continued in marching band and jazz band, and as a music major I was able to expand my music theory knowledge. Performing Experience: I have performed as part of the Riverdale High Marching Raider band during events such as the Florida Classic in Orlando, Florida, Howard University Homecoming Parade in Washington D.C., the annual Mardi Gras parades in Mobile, Alabama, and many Atlanta area battle of the bands and parades. As a member of the Jazz Band, I performed in the annual Jazz Band Festival held at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia. As a member of the Albany State University Marching Ram Show Band, I performed at the Circle City Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana and also the Honda Battle of the Bands held in the Georgia Dome every year. I am also a member of my current church's music department where I play every Sunday. Experience Teaching: The majority of my teaching has been informal, mostly just friends that wanted to learn the basics of bass, drums, and piano. While in marching band I was a section leader from 10th grade onward and I helped freshmen and rookie percussionist develop musically and also assisted my band director in training new rhythm section members in jazz band.
